Hello - I am a long time forum lurker but this is my first post.

I own a 3717 flieger chrono and a Mark XII and love them both. However, I am thinking about selling the Mk XII and want to have it serviced first as this is overdue. I guess my main question is whether I should also have the case polished ? Opinions seem to be split on this..case as is in pretty decent condition but of course it does show wear and tear from a lot of use since I bought it in '96

Any thoughts on whether polishing the case will decrease or maintain the second hand market value ? My apologies if I have inadvertently posted this in the wrong forum - any thoughts would be most welcome

    Hi Cato
    I would not polish it.
If you are selling it, sell it as is, without service and describe it that way. Leave it up to the new owner. The cost of a service will not be recouped in the sale price.

Thanks Mark - sounds like a sensible approach.

Hi, although Mark's comment is true, for a contemporary watch (with the purpose of selling) I would:
    * give it a complete overhaul INCLUDING polishing: the watch will be as new, so most attractive to buyers
    * not service it at all, if it runs ok, why 'waste' your money on it if it's going to be sold.

Just to give you 2 alternatives ;-)

    Thanks BB -

Appreciate your points of view as well - guess the MK XII, being 20 years old, is a bit in between being a new/contemporary watch, and one appealing more to vintage collectors. And some of the latter seem to have strong views on polish or not -

It does need a service anyway as at least 8 years since the last one and crown feel a bit loose -

but thanks for your thoughts, will continue to mull over :-)
